reasons to like london...

I like this image for two reasons.

1. i really like magritte. he is one of the few artists I can recognize.
2. i love the smell of a smoking pipe. maybe it's the kind of tobacco, maybe it is the pipe, itself, but i really, really like it.

i've never experienced it elsewhere, but here on the streets of london you can walk around and find old gentlemen (i assume) smoking pipes. it's cool.

I'm brave!

bike2
We did a little cycling this afternoon. Yep, a little bicycling. On the road. With cars and buses and other cyclists and motorcylists and scooters. I was a bit scared, but Toby was very patient with me and learned that cycling slow can be good exercise too. I mean, I don't even think the roads are big enough for 2 cars to go through, let alone me too. I felt like the cars were bullying me a bit.

But I'm still here and ready for some more riding! We went to the farmer's market where the guy with the bulldog and the sheltie go. I bought some goat's cheese with pepper and some LOVELY tasty tomatoes. They were pricey, but sooo good. I love farmers' markets.

So, that was Sunday.

And Friday? Oh yes, we went to the final night of Prince in London and it was good. Very, very good. What else can you say? The guy knows how to throw a funky party.

a look inside

Here are a couple of pictures from the inside of our new flat. These are some of my favorite things about our place....well, the windowboxes will be too, but i haven't got any flowers in them yet!

Fireplace

Do those flowers look familiar? I used to see them on our walks around St. John's Wood, now I can see them in my living room...

alien looking flower

And here is a picture of the tiles by our front door entrance.
Door Tiles

So there are some looks into our place. We still haven't completely unpacked, but I think we are all settled in.

Beginnings

Hurrah for September! This means I can wear sweaters and corduroy and not get weird looks! It means I can knit and not feel silly that it's summertime and I'm knitting...even though this cool-ish fall-ish weather has lasted all summer.

newhome

Toby and I are all moved in to our new place in Cricklewood (address upon request). We're awfully close to Willesden Green, but I think we are officially Cricklewood-ites. We have lived here a whole week and still have a few boxes to unpack, but I think we've settled in pretty well. There are 2 bedrooms, a good sized living room, kitchen, bathroom, a pretty looking but un-usable fireplace, a loft area for storage and 5 little steps separating the living room/bedroom areas from everything else. AND we have 3 window boxes all ready and waiting for me to put flowers in them. AND we a rockin' record player from Toby's dad. Oh the fun we'll be havin'.

This morning we woke up and headed down the road to Pedro's Cafe and had a very good cheap breakfast. I think this will have to become a bit of a weekend habit. Then we bought some fruit from the nearby van. 7 oranges and 5 beaches for £2.50. SO much cheaper than a grocerystore. Hurrah for van/market type things!

We've got a new month, a new home, and lots of new habits ahead of us.
